SideNotes is a sidebar note-taking app that lets you pin notes to the side of your Mac screen. Whether it’s text, code, or images, SideNotes handles them with ease, keeping important information always at hand. To make organization easier, you can also move notes into custom folders, set colors, and add checkmarks to tasks. It’s like a universal sidebar dedicated to storing important content.
SideNotes Key Features
Notes That Don’t Interrupt You
Blog posts, code snippets, or images you just downloaded can all be kept alongside your desktop with SideNotes. More importantly, it barely interferes with your normal work. The app hides at the edge of the screen like an overlay menu, appearing only when you actually need to view your notes.
Flexible Display Options
One of SideNotes’ design goals is to minimize distractions. You can decide when it appears and which side of the screen it displays on. In “Preferences,” you can choose to display it on the left or right side of the desktop.
In addition, you can set SideNotes to show or hide via a keyboard shortcut or mouse click.
Code-Friendly Interface
SideNotes supports monospaced fonts suitable for code display, where every character has the same width, so you don’t need to switch to another app to adjust font formatting.
You can copy code snippets directly while working and paste them into SideNotes. To make it easier to distinguish and organize code notes, you can also assign them different colors.
Markdown Support
When creating a new note, you can choose different editing modes, including code, plain text, or standard Markdown mode.
Markdown mode provides rich formatting options, such as adding headings and converting text into quotes. Content pasted into notes will also be displayed and formatted accordingly.
Easily Manage To-Dos
With SideNotes always available, you can handle tasks more efficiently. The app supports creating and managing to-do lists directly in notes.
After clicking the text formatting button, you can add checkable checkboxes to the task list, and simply check them off when the task is complete.
Share Your Notes
SideNotes protects your note privacy by default unless you actively choose to share the content.
The app supports multiple sharing methods, including Messages, Reminders, Notes, and Dropshare, and you can add more sharing options. Just click the “Share” button in the upper-left corner of a note to quickly share the current note.
