TH-U Premium is a professional guitar and bass amplifier, cabinet, and effects modeling software developed by Overloud, designed for guitarists, bassists, music producers, and recording engineers. It combines traditional amplifier Modeling, real-device Capturing, and Fluid IR processing in one platform, so users can build the complete effects chain from guitar input to final tone output on their computer without having to set up a complex physical amplifier, cabinet, and microphone system.
One of the biggest strengths of TH-U Premium is its enormous device model library. According to Overloud’s official information, the software currently includes 89 guitar amps, 4 bass amps, 50 guitar cabinets, 2 bass cabinets, 85 pedal and rack effects, and 18 microphone models. Some amplifier models are licensed from manufacturers such as Randall, DVmark, Brunetti, and THD, helping users achieve a sound in the digital environment that is closer to the real hardware.
Modeling and Real-Device Capturing Combined
Unlike traditional amp simulators that rely purely on algorithmic modeling, TH-U provides both Modeling and Capturing technologies. The built-in Rig Player can load Rig models captured from real devices.
Overloud’s capturing technology is not limited to the amplifier itself. It can also record the sonic characteristics of an entire real device chain, including the amplifier, cabinet, microphone, microphone preamp, and room environment, while capturing the non-linear and dynamic response of the equipment. In that sense, the Rig Player is closer to recreating, inside the software, a real guitar rig that has already been set up for recording.
TH-U Premium includes 20 Factory Rigs out of the box, while the broader TH-U ecosystem also provides a huge library of expansion resources. Users can continue adding different types of Captured Rigs and real IRs to match their musical style.
Fluid IR and Professional Cabinet Simulation
Cabinet and microphone simulation is another core feature of TH-U Premium. The new TH-U introduces Fluid IR technology. Compared with conventional IRs, which mainly describe a speaker’s frequency response, Fluid IR is also used to reproduce the speaker’s dynamic behavior and harmonic characteristics, resulting in a more realistic, immediate, and dynamic cabinet sound.
TH-U’s cabinet module features a flexible 3D microphone system. Up to four microphones can be used simultaneously, and users can adjust each microphone’s position, angle, and stereo image in front of or even behind the cabinet. The software also provides six room environments and 18 microphone models.
For users who have their own IR files, TH-U also includes built-in convolution processing, allowing external guitar cabinet IRs to be imported. The Dual IR Loader also makes it possible to mix external IRs with TH-U’s own cabinet microphone signals, giving tone design greater freedom.
Amp Tweak: Further Modifying Amplifier Characteristics
TH-U Premium does not simply let users choose different amp models. It also provides Amp Tweak technology, which can further modify the preamp tube and power tube models inside the amplifier and simulate the effect of a Variac on the amp’s operating state.
This means that even if you choose the same virtual amp, you can obtain completely different response characteristics by changing tube combinations and related parameters. For users who enjoy studying amplifier construction or want to create personalized guitar tones, this feature offers deeper adjustment possibilities than an ordinary amp simulator.
Extensive Effects and Flexible Effects Chains
In addition to amp and cabinet simulation, TH-U Premium provides a large collection of pedal and rack effects, making it possible to build a complete guitar signal chain. Users can freely arrange modules and use Split Point to create parallel processing paths, allowing more complex effect combinations.
The software also supports full MIDI control. Users can assign interface parameters to a MIDI foot controller to switch tones or control effect parameters during live performance. TH-U is therefore suitable not only for studio production, but also as the core guitar effects system for live performance.
More Than 1,000 Factory Presets
For users who do not want to build tones from scratch, TH-U Premium includes more than 1,000 Factory Presets covering a wide range of musical styles. Presets can be searched by music genre, artist, song, and guitar model.
Overloud also continues to deliver new monthly free presets to TH-U Premium users, with no additional subscription required. After downloading a Preset Bank, users can simply drag it into TH-U to import it, which is convenient for anyone who wants to quickly try different types of tones.
A Complete Guitar Tone Platform from Recording to Live Performance
Overall, TH-U Premium is not simply a few classic amp simulations. It brings together amplifier modeling, real-device capturing, Fluid IR, 3D cabinet and microphone simulation, external IRs, effects, preset management, and MIDI control in a unified software environment.
Whether you want to practice guitar at home on your computer, record guitar and bass in a DAW, design complex effects chains, craft professional tones, or even use it live, TH-U Premium offers a very complete solution. In particular, the coexistence of Modeling and Capturing means users can either dig deep into amp parameters as they would with a traditional amp sim, or directly use Rigs captured from real hardware systems, striking a good balance between flexibility and realism.
